This is one of my favourite times of the year… When the crisp air turns a little bit softer, the snow melts away (or at least it should), and the sun feels warmer every day. Along with all of this, comes one more of my favourite things: THE BLUE JAYS (for those of you who don’t know, that is the Toronto MLB team — and they are also the best, no I’m not biased!!).
Friday was the Jay’s home opener, and my husband and I had the pleasure (okay, we were absolutely off-the-wall excited, not that you can tell by Dave’s face above!) of cheering on our team, decked out in Blue Jay’s apparel! Now this wasn’t just any trip downtown to the Rogers Center – it was an Expedia.ca #BigWorldExplorer weekend getaway, complete with two night’s stay at the new (ish) Delta Toronto hotel, just a 5 minute walk from the dome.
Don’t you ever just want to get away for the weekend, but going anywhere far seems completely out of your reach, too expensive, or too difficult to plan? These are the exact reasons why I love a good “staycation!” We felt like we were far away from home, in that we were living in our own little bubble, yet getting there and going back home was so easy and convenient! It was truly an amazing getaway! Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself… Let me back up a bit!
The game started at 7:07pm, so after checking into our stunning hotel room (details to come further down in this post!), we headed over to Steam Whistle Brewery to meet up with a few friends before the game! The whole place was buzzing with excitement (no pun intended) and it was packed with Jay’s fans, and the odd Boston Red Sox fan… Boooooo. 🙂 Not long after, we headed over to the Rogers Center to line up at our gate to get inside!
There is something about this place that makes my heart beat fast… Seriously, I am not a sports fanatic by any stretch of the imagination, but baseball is something I can get seriously excited about! Especially when it comes to the Toronto Blue Jays! Anyone else with me?? The most exciting part about this game, as anyone who watched it can attest, was the grand slam by the uber-talented MVP, Josh Donaldson. There wasn’t a Jays fan in their seats when that ball came off his bat and flew into the crowd. It was a beautiful moment… However it was a beautiful moment that lasted a literal moment, as not too long after, Boston came back and defeated us in the end. Though the result of the game was disappointing, we were still happy to be there for the 2016 home opener!
Now let me introduce to you what truly stole my heart and several hours of my time this weekend:
There is not another thing on this planet that could have made me any happier with this hotel room. This giant soaker tub, complete with delicious smelling soaps and corner skyline view of Toronto’s downtown, was the show-stopper for me. THANK YOU DELTA TORONTO! When I say I spent hours in here… I mean it. I was basically a walking prune!
On Saturday, once we finally turned off the cable and got ourselves out of the most comfortable king-size bed imaginable, we got ready and decided to head down to the waterfront to do some exploring and snap a few pictures of Toronto’s beautiful downtown! But first, I had to take advantage of the warm, beautiful light shining through those floor-to-ceiling bathroom windows and show off this gorgeous steal of a dress from Dynamite – on sale for $30 here (I am wearing XS)!
Although the weekend wasn’t the warmest here in Toronto, it was certainly sunny and good for a little exploring! As you can see, I was wearing my winter parka (thank you Canada) even though it’s April… But hey, at least it kept me warm! Find it here for under $350. Also wearing Ray Ban Clubmasters and carrying a bag from Aldo (this style is sold out, but they have a similar one here).
After a bit of exploring, we wound up at Canyon Creek for dinner. It was our first time there, as usually if we’re hungry for a good steak we head to the Keg (what can I say, I used to work there and I can’t help but show the support!). We tried their $34 prix fixe menu which, for me, included Potato and Leek soup, Chipotle Sirloin with loaded baked potato, and a Salted Caramel Creme Brulee for dessert! It was really delicious, despite a bit of toughness in the steak. Overall, a good experience which left us very full and ready to head back to the room.
And guess what!? Another soaker-tub bath for me to end the most lovely of days!
We decided to splurge with breakfast in bed on Sunday morning before we packed up our things and ended our staycation. We went with the healthy option to kickstart our bodies back into regular weekday food, and it did not disappoint! Fresh fruit smoothie, Starbucks coffee, orange juice, a big bowl of fruit, warm carrot muffin, and crunchy granola for the win! The perfect way to end an amazing weekend with the love of my life.
After weekends like this, I can’t help but feel relaxed, refreshed, and reconnected to my hubby! A successful staycation indeed!
