A couple of weekends ago, I had the privilege of sitting down with Zivanka of Sweet as Fiction over some delicious food & drink at the new Cacao 70 location on Queen Street West in Toronto. As I’ve mentioned before, I have been loving meeting and getting to know other local Toronto bloggers, and this was no exception. Zivanka is not only a pretty face, she is a talented and driven woman who knows what she wants and goes after it! If you haven’t checked out her blog or Instagram (@sweetasfiction), get there ASAP!

We were also joined by a friend of mine named Abi (who also happens to be my wedding photographer) who took some lovely photos for us as we chatted, ate, and dreamed together! Please check out her photography page, I.Do.Photography! Not only is she a great photographer, she is a fabulous person all around! With the exception of one shot of Zivanka below, all photos on this post are by her.

While enjoying our delicious (and beautiful) food & hot beverages prepared by the wonderful staff at Cacao 70, Zivanka and I got the chance to hear a bit more about each others’ past, present, and future – most specifically in the world of blogging. I thought I would share some of that with you in a Q&A form so that you can get to know a bit more about Zivanka like I did!

1. What inspired you to start a blog?

The one thing I’ve always known is acting. I’ve been in the industry for years and love it. I went to school for it, continued training in the city and was auditioning or filming. That was what I knew. Throughout the past couple of years, I was being approached by strangers asking where my outfits were from. It got to a point where I thought, “Could I get into fashion?” I naturally had a passion for it as much as I did with acting, so I thought why not explore this as a hobby?  It was a great way to share the pieces I kept finding. I also think a part of me wanted to explore another creative outlet, where I wasn’t playing a character, something where I could communicate my point of view while still being authentic… this time it would be with me telling a story through style. That’s how ‘Sweet as Fiction’ was born.

2. How would you describe your personal style?

That can change day to day depending on how I am feeling. As a whole I would say my style is effortless, sophisticated yet chic. I love mixing in wardrobe staples with trends and incorporating high end pieces with the low end. Not everything has to be designer, but I truly believe in investing in the things you love. Those will stand the test of time.

3. What are your top three favourite stores to shop at (can be online, too!)?

Saks Fifth Avenue, Intermix & Zara.

4. What are your favourite trends for this season?

Off the shoulder tops, lace-up heels and monochrome outfits.

5. You are going away for one night with your man and can only bring one outfit… What do you bring?

Pointy pumps, a great pair of distressed jeans, a blazer and dainty gold jewelry.

6. What is your go-to shoe for spring?

I am loving the espadrille look! Wedge espadrilles especially in stripes or a neutral colour.

7. What are the next steps for Sweet as Fiction? Where are your aspirations?

To keep doing what I love. I need to be creative. It’s what I know best, whether that be in the acting world or within fashion. Ideally I would love to do both and to keep growing. I also would love to continue to work with brands and hopefully down the line work with a charity to help inspire and empower women somehow. If that comes through the fashion world, that would be great! Another aspiration is to create a Mr. Poof book and have my own fashion line. Truthfully my aspirations are never ending.
