For many of you, this adventure may not be that much of an adventure, but for me on my 1st wedding anniversary it was definitely one of the best trips ever! Dave (my husband) planned out the entire trip, which was a gift in itself, and we headed south to Tampa last week for a mini-vacay. We stayed at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk hotel in downtown Tampa and had an AMAZING stay there. I highly recommend this hotel.
It isn’t the newest hotel in the area, but it has a very Floridian-feel to it. It is clean and well-maintained with updated amenities and rooms. But what makes it great is the staff. We were so well taken care of! Though we booked our room through a third-party booking agency, when we arrived they allowed us to add our SPG card to our stay (earning us points!), and when we told them that we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, we were upgraded to a room with a riverview and balcony – not to mention the perks of “Club Level” giving us complimentary breakfast and pre-dinner hors d’oeuvres, alongside snacks that were available all day! This ended up saving us money on our trip, because we could snack throughout the day and not spend so much money on big meals. Furthermore, it made our stay feel more home-y and I love that! Last brag on this hotel is that they checked us in early, and checked us out late – which was great because our flights were super early and super late, which gave us maximum time at the hotel to enjoy the beautiful outdoor pool and patio.
Our second full day in Tampa, we drove our rental car (Cadillac ATS!) to Orlando to visit Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park. This was a fun experience, since neither Dave or I have been there before, but we quickly realized that the experience and name is a lot of what you pay for. The park is very family-friendly, meaning most of the rides are fairly tame and readily available for young children. We are roller-coaster ENTHUSIASTS so we were a bit disappointed to find that only a couple of the coasters really melted our faces off 😉 and that might be giving them too much credit! However, we were surprised to find that our favourite ride was a simulation one – Spiderman. Highly recommend this ride if you’re visiting this park! After 4 hours of 45 degree C weather, we were spent and headed back to the hotel to cool off and enjoy the pool.
Later that night we headed into Ybor City to explore, shop, and eat! Our first impression wasn’t very good, but that is because we went the wrong direction down the main street and found there was basically nothing on that end. When we turned around, we found several places that intrigued us, including several cigar shops (Dave was obsessed with buying some cigars for the pool), cute restaurants, the Tampa Brewhouse, and a cool outdoor bar called the Sandbar (all you can drink for $20 on weekends, which is a great price if that’s what you want to do!). We had fun, but we were pretty exhausted so we didn’t last long after our meal at Bernini’s, and headed back to the hotel.
The third day was our actual anniversary! We spent the morning at the hotel enjoying the hot sun and getting some colour, and then we jumped into the Caddy and drove down to St. Petersburgh to grab a bite to eat before seeing the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays!! Downtown St. Pete’s is really cute, with tons of restaurants and outdoor patios. I wish we had spent more time there in the afternoon before the game, because I feel like there was a lot more to see. We headed to Tropicana Stadium for the game at 7pm and watched a tight game… That is until the Jays grabbed the lead and didn’t let it go! We had so much fun cheering on our Jays in Tampa, and chirping the 14 year old twin boys beside us who were trying hard to get to us the whole game. All in all, a win for everyone.
Finally, on our last day we visited Clearwater Beach (you can also follow them on Instagram @clearwater.beach) and simply wished we had gone sooner. The beach was huge with soft white sand and TONS to do! The beach was packed, but we managed to find a spot near the water to soak up some sun and come in and out of the water.
Clearwater offers these cool cabanas that you can rent for a small cost, depending on what time of day you go. Since we didn’t get to spend a lot of time there, we didn’t rent one but definitely would do that next time we go back! The main street is lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and places to buy things for both your time at the beach and also souvenirs for home. It is really family friendly – lots of kids around – but definitely big enough that you can still find your own space on the beach to hang out and catch some rays! Furthermore, and most importantly, I got to try out my new Triangl bikini, too (pics below!) and that was a fun little photoshoot with my hubby!
In my previous post, I reviewed the Triangl Poppy Blue Crush bikini. After actually wearing it for longer than 10 minutes in my bedroom, I realized how great this suit actually is. Although I still think I could have sized up in the bottoms (I ordered XS when I think a S would have been a bit more comfortable!) overall, this suit makes me feel great, and you aren’t thinking about anything falling out or coming loose. It really keeps everything secure!
Just as a quick reminder, or to those first-time readers of my blog, I ordered a S top and a XS bottom. My usual sizing is a 32C bra and XS or S in underwear, size 0 or 2 in jeans, depending on the brand. Dave and I just had some fun running around the beach snapping photos, so here are a few of those shots!
